Sometimes, you’re just in the mood for a great Tex-Mex meal. That’s when you have to grab a seat at Republic Cantina, on N Street Northwest. Though it just opened in July, this eatery is getting rave reviews about everything it offers.
This restaurant is the brainchild of Texas native Chris Svetlik, who knows a thing or two about what Tex-Mex cuisine is all about. He’s teamed up with chef Antonio Burrell to create a daytime-only dining experience that seeks to show patrons the true Mexican roots of one of Texas’ finest exports. As you may have guessed, Republic Cantina’s unconventional hours have one major benefit: breakfast tacos. Early visitors appreciate the brisket variety, with carne guisada, chorizo, and migas just a few other tempting options. Other offerings include things like “proper” queso topped with anything from pico de gallo to smoked sausage, and even frozen margaritas. The avocado variation sounds too refreshing not to try.
Non-alcoholic drinks are equally interesting. Many of your favorite coffee beverages are available, as well as a few unconventional combinations. Try a Mexican Coca-Cola mixed with espresso!
