Don’t let the name fool you: Old Europe in Glover Park is an American institution. It opened its doors on Wisconsin Avenue in the nation’s capital in 1948 and since then has been serving authentic German cuisine to hungry Washingtonians.
From the outside, Old Europe may look like your standard lunch spot, but step inside the door and you’ll be transported to old Bavaria. Smiling waitresses wearing traditional dirndls greet you, traditional cuckoo clocks and oil paintings decorate the dining room walls, and steins of pilsner and schwarzbier line the bar. Regulars recommend the Old Europe sausage combo, which includes house-made bratwurst, bauernwurst, and weisswurst, along with sauerkraut and spaetzle. And heads up, [WEBLNK] vegetarians: Yelp reviewers report that Old Europe has plenty of veggie-only options.
An upstairs dining room and rathskeller are available for private parties, rehearsal dinners, and special events.
