Since it opened in 2006, Urbana, the underground restaurant at DC’s Hotel Palomar, has made its name for itself because of its pizza and Mediterranean cuisine. The menu is expertly prepared under the direction of Chef Ethan McKee, and now with the restaurant’s new series of cooking classes, you can spend an evening learning to prepare Urbana style dishes in your own home.
Once a month, Chef McKee hosts cooking workshops from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Classes cost $45, and includes recipes, food and drink, as well as leftovers you can take home and enjoy. Each session focuses on a particular seasonal theme or type of cooking — previous sessions have included Roman style Valentine’s Day meals, fruitti di mare seafood dishes, and Sicilian limoncello-making. Whatever class you choose to attend, know that during the two-hour class you’ll learn techniques for preparing, plating, and pairing your food the Urbana way. Check the website for a schedule of upcoming classes, as well as information on how to reserve your spot.
