DC loves beer. Beer loves DC. Together, we’re a pretty happy pair.
And today, we’re ecstatic. We stumbled on the updated schedule for this years hotly-anticipated 7th Annual DC Beer Week, which is “shaping up to be the biggest yet.” It’s not just the beer, either. The sense of community and ample learning experiences take this event to another level.
There are tons of events to choose from this year, but we handpicked the best DC Beer Week events near Cathedral Heights. There’s one for every day of the week (minus the second Sunday. You might be pretty beered-out after seven days). Check it out.
Sunday: Hangin’ Tough in the Brewhouse at The Black Squirrel
Kick off DC Beer Week with “Hangin’ Tough in the Brewhouse” at The Black Squirrel (12 minute drive from Cathedral Commons) on Sunday, August 9, between 5:00pm-11:45pm.
You’ll have the opportunity to taste some of the freshest, youngest breweries on the East Coast, from Virginia-based Fair Winds to DC’s very own Hellbender. The I Love Lamp Pineapple Hefeweizen from PA’s Evil Genius Brewery or VA-based Caboose’s Cucumber Saison get major props for creativity, and there’s plenty of IPAs and pale ales to satisfy the most discerning beer lovers.
Monday: Tap Takeover at Macon Bistro & Larder
Head to Macon Bistro & Larder (10 minute drive) on Monday, August 10 at 4pm, where Heritage Brew’s flowing from all four taps all week long. The best part? You can snag $6 drafts from 4pm-6pm and $10 flights, $7 drafts, and $12 flights from 6pm-close. This will most definitely make Monday sweeter, and it’s the perfect opportunity to relax and enjoy a few beers post work.
Tuesday: The Week “Gose” On! at Roofer’s Union
On Tuesday, August 10 at 5pm, head to Roofer’s Union (13 minute drive), where it’s all anything gose, all week long. Yes, that misspelling was purposeful–“Gose” is a top-fermented beer originating in Germany, and if you haven’t tried it yet, it’s time.
Gose is old school, unfiltered, with a low hop bitterness and a bit of spice. Discover new old school favorites when you sample Union Craft’s Old Pro with Pink Peppercorns, Lost Rhino’s Gose, Evil Twin’s Mission Gose, Boulevard’s Hibiscus Gose, and Off Color’s Troublesome. There are far too many puns we could end this with. But we won’t–we just think you should gose to Roofer’s Union on Tuesday.
Wednesday: East Coast-West Coast Showdown at Atomic Billiards
Shake Shack vs. In-n-Out. Bagels vs. tacos. Who doesn’t love a good old-fashioned East vs. West Coast debate? (Just please don’t start a Tupac vs. Biggie debate. It’s unwinnable.)
Atomic Billiards (5 minute drive) is hosting an East Coast-West Coast Showdown on Wednesday, August 12 at 7pm, where we’ll see East Coast heavyweight Heavy Seas take on West Coast contender Green Flash. Not to diminish the gravity of this war, but the results? Who cares. You’ll get to vote on your favorite, everything will be delicious, and everyone will win some swag. The perfect Wednesday night.
Thursday: 3rd Annual Clambake with Gansett Beer at Ventnor Sports Cafe
The Word “clambake” excites even the most jaded East Coasters. The only thing that could improve a clambake? Good beer.
Good thing there’s both at Ventnor Sports Cafe (13 minute drive) this year. They’re hosting their 3rd annual DCBW Clambake with Gansett Beer on Thursday, August 13 from 6:30pm-11:30pm. You’ll get to sample a menu of almost 10 different offerings from the brewery. Make a reservation for your entire friend group today. (Clambakes are more fun with them.)
Friday: Big Ole’ Boulegang Happy Hour at Jack Rose
Hallelujah! Friday got here a lot more quickly than usual, don’t you think? Head to Jack Rose Dining Saloon (13 minute drive) on Friday, August 14 from 5pm-7:30pm to finish off the work week with a Big Ole’ Boulegang Happy Hour (Boulevard and Ommegang=Boulegang). Boulevard’s serving up some refreshing summer options like Ginger Lemon Radler (along with four other fantastic picks), and Ommegang’s on their game with Belgian Independence Day dry hopped Tripel and four other solid options on tap.
Saturday: Bikes & Brews Ride w/Glen Garden Market, Hellbender Beer, and Atlas Brew Works
Hopefully you didn’t overindulge last night–the Bikes & Brews Ride at Glen’s Garden Market (12-minute drive) can’t be missed! Detox with a nice bike ride, then of course we’ll get back to drinking around 4:30pm.
BYO helmet, bike, lock, and water bottle, and meet at City Bikes on Adams Morgan on August 15 at 12pm. Sign the waiver and RSVP before the event, and look forward to that 30% discount off the “Growler Hour” at Glen’s afterward. Hey, that’s how they motivate Olympians (we think).
