Date Night Restaurants Near Cathedral Heights

Figuring out where to go on date night shouldn’t be a chore. Whatever cuisine you and your date are in the mood for, there are options just a walk or short drive from your Cathedral Commons apartment. Here are some of our favorites for different types of nights out!

The Ol’ Neighborhood Standby

Medium Rare – Coming here is easy, all you need to do is choose your wine and dessert. The $19.75 prix fixe menu offers bread, salad, steak and fries cooked per your request. This affords plenty of time to talk and enjoy your date’s company. No reservations are required, and this restaurant doesn’t have a lot of frills. Still, the steak is reliably delicious and the setting is upscale, but still casual.

Cultured Cuisine

La Piquette – The ambiance is cozy, and the ingredients seasonal and fresh. The head chef formerly worked for the French Ambassador, a clue that the cuisine is authentic and elegantly presented. This place is commonly described as a “neighborhood gem,” known as much for its Sunday brunch as its Saturday night dinners. Although a bit pricey, the Duck Breast “a l’Orange” and the Seared Eastern Sea Scallops are well worth it.

Trendy & Modern

Ripple – Ripple is right on trend with the “farm to table” approach to fresh cuisine, which has become very popular in the District. Though the food is “fresh from the farm,” this place is hardly rustic. Instead, the décor and cuisine are both contemporary. It’s quiet, with a neighborhood feel, in spite of its upscale atmosphere. If you and your date feel adventurous, try the bone marrow entrée for a unique and delicious experience you can share.

Sushi Date

Sushi is a great date standby. It’s fun, it’s different, and it’s about 10 minutes away in Chevy Chase. Sushiko is trendy but quiet and friendly, making it an easy date spot. The sashimi is also reliably fresh. Try the soft shell crab roll, or one of their seafood entrees. Don’t let the strip mall setting fool you. On the inside, this is an elegant and popular establishment.

Casual Date

Sometimes, you just don’t want to dress up. 2 Amys Neopolitan Pizza offers reasonable prices, some of the best pizza in the district, charcuterie plates, and a beloved wine list. This is a place for a date where you aren’t trying to make any bold impressions. Come here for a couple slices, some wine, and a chance to feel completely relaxed and comfortable. If you come early in the day, there are lots of families and children. But later on a Friday or Saturday night, this a trustworthy casual date spot.

Whether you are going on a first date or the 1000th date with your significant other, there is an option not far from where you live. From casual and cozy to slick and elegant, your options are abundant in and around Cleveland Park.
