Cathedral Commons Brings New Light to Your Holidays

Cathedral Commons Brings New Light to Your Holidays

‘Twas the night before the Tree Lighting, and all through Cathedral Commons, not a resident was stirring, not even the concierge. The tree had been planted, by Giant with care, in hopes that the community would soon be there!

This past weekend, Cathedral Commons festively hosted their first-ever community Holiday Tree Lighting event. Excitement towards the event began a few weeks prior, when the 30 foot evergreen was hoisted into the center of its larger-than-life drum base, and melon sized ornaments were poised on its branches. Following suit, the light poles were decked with rich, green fern, and bold, red velvet bows. The holidays had officially arrived within the neighborhood of Cathedral Heights. Something was amiss, though. The tree needed lights, and they were not to be lit without a jubilant celebration!

On November 28th high notes from The Thomas Circle Carolers and DC local A Capella Group, Clear Harmonies, filled the perfectly crisp air with everyone’s favorite holiday carols. Families made memories as they posed for photos with Santa, and children stared in awe as a stilted toy soldier character and frosty browsed through the crowd. The mood was cheerful; 7:00 ticked closer and the crowd’s anticipation turned into excitement. After a warm welcoming and thank you to the community, Santa counted down to bring life to the tree…3…2…1…TA-DA!

Be sure to drive through Cathedral Commons in the evening to see our beautiful Holiday tree, it is sure to ignite your holiday spirit. Many thanks to our sponsors: The Washington Ballet and Wells Fargo.
